Actor Randeep Hooda’s directorial debut, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, seems to be benefiting from the Holi weekend. The film’s box office collection spiked on its first Sunday.

According to the makers, on the third day, the movie collected Rs 2.75 crore. This brings the film’s box office collection in India to Rs 6.10 crore. The movie, which released alongside Kunal Kemmu’s Madgaon Express, had an overall occupancy of 29.60 per cent on Sunday.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the film’s latest box office figures on X. His post read, “#SwatantryaVeerSavarkar is best in #Mumbai circuit, but in view of the excellent word of mouth, it should’ve scored better numbers *beyond* #Maharashtra, especially on Sun… Fri 1.10 cr, Sat 2.25 cr, Sun 2.75 cr. Total: ₹ 6.10 cr. #India biz. #Boxoffice”

He added, “The #Holi holiday [on Mon] will help maintain the momentum [from 2 pm / 3 pm onwards] and then it will be about how it fares from Tue to Thu… The #GoodFriday holiday [on Fri] should help the film commence Week 2 on a positive note, but it has a new opponent [#Crew] to contend with.”

Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, based on the life of freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, has Randeep Hooda in the titular role. Bigg Boss 17 fame Ankita Lokhande also plays a pivotal role in the film.

The movie opened to mixed reviews on Friday. The Indian Express Film critic Shubhra Gupta wrote in her review, “Randeep Hooda’s playing of Savarkar, the physical transformation in prison with his ribs showing and teeth rotting, and achieving an astonishing likeness of his subject, is admirable. But the film’s one-sidedness makes it stridently one-sided, and, ultimately, reductive.”
