Tamil actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who was recently seen in the Telugu film Hanu-Man, has lashed out at fake reports of her arrest by the National Investigative Agency (NIA). The reports claimed that the actress was arrested regarding an ongoing investigation of her former manager Adilingam, who was allegedly involved in drugs and arms dealing.
In 2023, it was reported that Varalaxmi was summoned by NIA. Later, in an official press release, the actress claimed it was false news. Recently, many reports claimed that Varalaxmi was arrested in that case, which has come as a shock to the actress.
On X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “It’s so sad that our talented media has no news than to start circulating old #fakenews. Our dear journalists especially the self-proclaimed news sites and your articles, why don’t you start doing some real journalism? Stop finding flaws with your celebrities, we are trying to act, entertain people, and do our jobs. Why don’t you do yours?! There are 1000 serious issues that need your actual attention! Don’t take our silence to be a sign of weakness. #defamation cases are also #trending now..STOP circulating fake trash and baseless news. And bring back journalism that makes us proud (sic).”

Earlier, Adilingam was arrested in Kerala for possessing 300 kg of heroin and an AK47 gun. When the news broke, Varalaxmi was criticized for her alleged involvement with the suspect. However, the actress claimed that she employed him as a freelance manager, and the news of his arrest shocked her too.
The actress recently got engaged to her boyfriend gallerist Nicholai Sachdev. On the work front, Varalaxmi is joining hands with Dhanush in his upcoming directorial venture Raayan.
