The Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan-starrer Shaitaan has minted Rs 100 crore worldwide in just six days. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 6.25 crore on Wednesday, mirroring Tuesday’s earnings of Rs 6.5 crore. With this, the film’s total domestic collection has reached Rs 74 crore.

Directed by Vikas Bahl, Shaitaan was released in theaters worldwide on March 8. The horror film kick-started its box office run with an impressive debut, raking in Rs 17.75 crore on opening day. With positive word-of-mouth, the collections continued to rise, and the film made Rs 18.75 crore on the second day and Rs 20.5 crore on the third day.

Shaitaan had an overall 13.08 percent Hindi occupancy on Wednesday. Chennai recorded the highest occupancy, followed by cities like Jaipur and Pune. Shaitaan also stars Jyothika, Janki Bodiwala and Anngad Raaj in pivotal roles.  It is a remake of the 2013 Gujarati movie Vash. While the film is doing well at the box office, it will face competition from Sidharth Malhotra and Disha Patani’s movie Yodha, which will hit theatres starting March 15.

Ajay was last seen in the film Bholaa. Also starring Tabu, Bholaa minted Rs 53 crore after six days. The film made Rs 90 crore in India, and was considered a big-budget disappointment. Ajay was also seen in Drishyam 2, which minted Rs 95.99 crore in India after six days. The film ended its theatrical run in India with an impressive Rs 239 crore.

Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta gave Shaitaan 2 stars. A part of the review read, “The trouble with this remake of Gujarati film Vash is that all the ‘kaala-jaadu’ trickery is ultimately strictly window-dressing to a hero vs villain story. Which makes it predictable, because how can a hero, even if he has allowed himself to be bashed up and bloodied till then, can not win?”
