As speculated earlier, Mari Selvaraj and Vikram’s son Dhruv are teaming up for a film. However, a new and surprising development with the project is that it is produced by Pa Ranjith, who bankrolled Mari’s debut film, Pariyerum Perumal. Along with Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Studios, the film is co-produced by Applause Entertainment.

Mari Selvaraj took to social media to announce the details of his yet-untitled film. He wrote, “Starting my fifth film with a banger! Overwhelmed to be joining hands once again with Pa Ranjith Anna and Neelam Studios. Excited to be working with Applause Entertainment and Aditi Anand (founder of Applause).”

Other than Dhruv Vikram, the film has Anupama Parameswaran of Premam fame in the lead role. Other details about the cast and crew are yet to be announced. It has to be seen if Santhosh Narayanan, who composed music for Mari Selvaraj’s Pariyerum Perumal, Karnan, and Vaazhai, will be teaming up with the director again.

In a statement, Mari revealed that the upcoming film is a sports drama. He said, “I’m pumped up and exhilarated to be joining hands with Pa Ranjith anna once again now for my 5th film along with another strong partner – Applause Entertainment. It is with immense joy to say that this film is with Neelam Studios and Aditi Anand. She’s a really good friend and a massive support as she has been following my works closely ever since Pariyerum Perumal and I’m glad to be working alongside her for this project. This film will be a raw sports drama which goes back to the roots of Kabadi and to be working with Dhruv, a strong talented youngster will definitely add up different perspectives to the film. It is with no doubt I say that this film will be an important milestone for all of us.”

Mari Selvaraj tasted success with the release of his first film Pariyerum Perumal. He then teamed up with Dhanush for Karnan, which also turned out to be a blockbuster. He last directed Vadivelu and Udhayanidhi Stalin in Maamannan. He is currently working on the post-production of his fourth directorial venture Vaazhai, which also marks his debut as a producer.

Mari is known for his provocative and moving narratives of the oppressed communities in Tamil Nadu. The filmmaker has earlier admitted that all his movies will deal with caste politics as it is impossible to deal with anything in Indian society without taking caste oppression into account.
