Over the past couple of days, social media is flooded with photos and videos from Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s star-studded pre-wedding bash held in Jamnagar. While everyone is in awe of the celebrity guestlist, comprising desi and international stars, and the lavish and exorbitant decor, Maria Goretti, former VJ and host, seems to be upset with the Ambanis for using an elephant as a ‘prop’.
Maria, who is married to Arshad Warsi, slammed the pre-wedding celebrations for being “unkind” to animals. The 52-year-old took to Instagram to post a picture of Ivanka Trump — one of the guests attending the ceremonies — which also shows an elephant being used as ‘prop’ at one of the venues.

Describing the image of Ivanka standing next to a decorated elephant as ‘appalling,’ and calling it ‘heartbreaking’, Maria Goretti wrote, “I’m appalled at this picture of the Ambani celebration. I don’t think this should happen to any animal, specially not to animals that are being rescued and rehabilitated. Heartbreaking, just heartbreaking that this elephant was made to stand like a prop, in the middle of noise and people (sic).”
The celebrations included themed events like An Evening in Everland, A Walk on the Wildside set in the Ambanis’ animal rescue center Vantara, and a maha aarti. It is interesting to note that Vantara, a comprehensive animal rescue, care, conservation and rehabilitation programme, which was recently inaugurated, is spearheaded by Anant Ambani.

A horde of celebrities including Rihanna, Arijit Singh, Diljit Dosanjh, Udit Narayan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sukhwinder Singh and David Blaine performed during the celebrations. The guest list also included Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Kajol, Katrina Kaif, Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor, among others.
