Rajkumar Santoshi’s 1994 film Andaz Aapna Apna remains a cult classic. Despite it being almost 30 years since the Aamir Khan and Salman Khan-led film tickled our funnybone, the behind-the-scenes stories from the film’s set excite the fans of the comedy-drama to this day. Actor Shehzad Khan aka Bhalla to Biju Khote’s Robert, recently shared how Aamir and Salman often fought on the film’s set.
During an interaction with Siddharth Kannan, Khan was asked if the rumours of Salman and Aamir not sharing a cordial relationship during the shoot of Andaz Apna Apna were true. He replied in the affirmative and added, “I have seen it happen in front of my eyes. Many times things would happen. Salman is Salman and Aamir is Aamir. I won’t blame anyone for it. Often, I used to be the bridge between them. I have been very close to Salman since childhood, toh cheezein nipat jaati thi (so things used to be sorted out).”

Aamir and Salman had different approaches towards their work and that became the reason behind the tension between them. “Aamir would reach the Mud Island bungalow at 7-7.30 in the morning when call time used to be 9 am. Salman bechaare 10-11 baje tak aa hi jaate the (poor Salman would come by 10-11),” added Khan, while defending his childhood friend. “We all know how difficult it is to come from Bandra. Kabhi gaadi kharab, kabhi kuch kharab… (Sometimes the car broke down or sometimes something else…” Aamir Khan also used to live in Bandra during the shoot of the film.

Shehzad Khan further spoke in favour of Salman on the difference between Aamir being a one-take artist and Salman taking a few shots before giving that perfect shot. “But the performance of both of them was up to the mark, nobody can say this is 32 takes and this is one take,” Khan said.
As per him, Salman and Aamir never “confronted” each other on the film’s set. “If it happened behind closed doors, I don’t know,” rued Khan.
Besides the regular tension between Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, the atmosphere on the set of Andaz Apna Apna used to be warm and cordial. “We used to have a lot of fun during the shoot. It was a very family-like atmosphere. Our producer would bring home-cooked food. He used to pamper us like hell,” shared Khan.

Andaz Apna Apna couldn’t become a box office hit, but eventually gained cult status. As per Shehzad Khan, the film could do well at the ticket counters since it was not “promoted well” by the makers.
