Actor Sunil Grover is gearing up for season 2 of his thriller series Sunflower, which will stream on ZEE5. Sunil recently sat down with Indianexpress.com for an interesting conversation about dealing with failures and success, how much he has changed as a person today, his character, and lots more.

Talking about Sunflower and dark comedy, Sunil said, “I don’t understand what comes under dark comedy. All I understand is that I am having fun playing the character. Vikas (Behl) was very clear on how he wanted me to play the character. Thrill and humor go side by side with it. I learned a few things from Sonu, but I want to learn his confidence. He is not a very simple character. He has different sides to him and also a loner attitude. He is smart but looks simple. It took me a little time to understand his headspace. Sometimes it gets very difficult to stay with this character.”

Sunil Grover also shared his views on dealing with failures and if it changes him as a person. He said, “I don’t feel like there is anything like failure. Everything is a success. Every failure leaves you with a learning. It has its reasons. During my voice-over artiste days, I used to think it was to run my house, but eventually I realized that it was all my training. My approach to work keeps changing, but as a person, I am more or less the same. There is no longer a desparation. I don’t get worried now. If it happens also, I get okay in a few minutes. I don’t take too much pressure now.”

When asked what he thinks was a turning point in his journey, considering his transition from the small screen to the 70mm has been smooth, Sunil said, “My transition has been very gradual actually. I never knew when it happened, but it’s been great. I have experienced various things in this journey so far, and I am looking forward to more. I got to work with various creative minds. There have been many turns in my journey. From a popularity point of view, playing Gutthi on Comedy Nights with Kapil was a game-changer. In university, I did a play that people loved, so that was a turning point in terms of acceptance.”

He added, “Of course, you want to do work that stands out. Eventually, the audience’s reaction is not in your control. If you do something thinking about the competition, only you will get hassled. It is not a race for me, but an enjoyment. So you cannot think too much about the audience.”

On a parting note, Sunil Grover also shared if one can afford to be as streetsmart as his character in Sunflower. “When you get too streetsmart, destiny stops helping you. Then you only seek shortcuts, sometimes you should leave it to luck. But being too street-smart can get troublesome.”
