From training to be a chartered accountant to becoming an actor, Sunny Kaushal has had quite the journey. The actor — son of action director Sham Kaushal and brother of Vicky Kaushal — recently shared that neither he nor his brother ever used their father’s name to get work in the Hindi film industry. He also said that since his father was an action director, casting directors barely knew his name.

In a new interview with Curly Tales, Sunny shared how Vicky and a group of other aspiring actors would often go for theatre and film auditions. On being asked why he was giving auditions despite his father being a part of the film fraternity, Sunny said, “Dad is an action director. A lot of people in the casting area don’t know about all the technicians that are behind the camera, they don’t know the names. Even if they do, you don’t connect with them.”

The Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga actor said though he is proud of his surname, he and his brother Vicky never used it to bag work. He said, “I am really proud of my name and my surname but we never used it. We have never gone to a place and said, ‘You know my father is also from the film industry’. Aisa nahi hota tha, usse koi fayeda bhi nahi hai (This didn’t use to happen and it’s not like it would’ve helped us either).”

The Kaushals are a close-knit family, with the latest addition being Vicky’s wife, Katrina Kaif. Between his brother and sister-in-law, Sunny still chooses his brother. He opined, “Bhaiya nahi hote toh bhabhi kahan se aati (If my brother didn’t exist, how would have I gotten Katrina in my life).”

Sunny will be next seen in Taapsee Pannu-starrer Haseen Dilruba Phirse. His brother Vicky Kaushal recently starred in Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur, and then appeared in an extended cameo in Dunki.
