All seven members of the South Korean boy band BTS have begun their compulsory military service. Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, RM, V, and Jungkook will reunite in 2025. Singers RM and V began their military duties in December 2023, and Jimin and Jungkook followed suit. In South Korea, it’s mandatory for all men between 18 and 35 to serve in the military. Despite discussions about exempting BTS, the members collectively chose to fulfill their military duties.

BTS enlistments started with Jin, the eldest member, heading to a military training centre near the North Korean border shortly after turning 30. As reported by My K-Pop shows, Jin is expected to complete his service on June 12, 2024.

A few months later, J-Hope and Suga began their enlistment. Suga enlisted on September 22, 2023, while J-Hope started his service on April 18, 2023. J-Hope is expected to complete his service around October 17, 2024. Meanwhile, Suga, also known as Min Yoongi, is serving in the public sector instead of the military, and is scheduled to be discharged on June 21, 2025.

Kim Namjoon, also known as RM, and Kim Taehyung, also known as V, both enlisted in the military on December 11, 2023. RM’s discharge date is set for June 6, 2025, while V is also expected to make his comeback on the same day. Additionally, BTS members Jimin and Jungkook began their military service on December 12, 2023, and are likely to be discharged on June 11, 2025.

Fans on the internet expressed their excitement. One of them wrote, “We’re getting closer to your discharge date~♡ here’s to another year of us staying fine and bulletproofing till 2025.” RM had previously said on Weverse, “What I’m thinking right now is, these days, when I’m doing my solo projects, is, this is just like a vacation to get back to where I was, which was BTS and ARMY. So, all the solo [work] is just a journey, but it is a very important journey for chapter two. It’s a journey to get back home safe, eventually, when we get back and reunite together in 2025.”
