The makers of the biggest success of 2023 — Pathaan — are gearing up for its second installment. According to reports, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone are reuniting for Pathaan 2, and the film will “set the ground” for SRK’s next Tiger vs Pathaan with Salman Khan.
A source told Pinkvilla that Yash Raj Films’ Aditya Chopra has already locked the film’s script, and the story will take place before the timeline of Tiger vs Pathaan.

The source was quoted as saying, “Pathaan 2 will predate Tiger vs Pathaan and will set up the clash of two cinematic legends on the big screen. Shah Rukh Khan as Pathaan is definitely a character that has resonated with audiences, and there is a constant on-ground demand from the audience to see more of SRK in the spy avatar. Soon after the release in January 2023, Adi and SRK had decided to spin Pathaan into a standalone franchise too within the Spy Universe and the former started ideating the sequel of this all-time blockbuster.”

The source further revealed that the makers are looking at starting shooting Pathaan 2 by the end of this year. The source said, “Pathaan 2 is being designed as the tentpole spy film of the universe that will set things up for bigger conflict in the times to come. It will set up the next phase of YRF Spy Universe’s timeline. In fact, Pathaan 2 sets things up for the big battle between Tiger and Pathaan (Tiger vs Pathaan) in the future timeline.”
Pathaan, directed by Siddharth Anand, turned out to be one of the most successful movies in YRF’s Spy Universe. However, it is not clear if Anand will be helming Pathaan 2 too.
Pathaan, released in January 2023, starred Deepika Padukone and John Abraham as well. The film went on to mint a whopping Rs 1,050.30 crore at the worldwide box office. Salman’s Tiger made a cameo in Pathaan and SRK as Pathaan had a cameo in Tiger 3. Now, after Pathaan 2, the two Khans will have a full-fledged film together titled Tiger vs Pathaan.
