Ever since filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar announced Don 3 with Ranveer Singh in 2023, there have been speculations about who’d bag the role of the female lead in the film. On Tuesday, Akhtar put all speculations to end as he announced that Kiara Advani will be joining the Don franchise opposite Ranveer. Priyanka Chopra previously played the female lead in Don 2, starring Shah Rukh Khan.

After teasing about the special announcement on Monday, Excel Entertainment wrote on social media, “Welcome to the Don universe @kiaraaliaadvani #Don3.” The announcement video doesn’t reveal Kiara’s first look from the film, nor does it reveal any information about who she’s playing. It does, however, tease that the franchise’s iconic theme tune remains intact.

The speculations around Kiara being a part of the hit franchise started doing the rounds when she was spotted at the Excel Entertainment office recently. When Akhtar was quizzed about her casting in Don 3 then, he said, “Well it’s all work in progress. I don’t wanna get ahead of myself and say something that I may have to take back for any other reason but as and when it happens, you’ll know.”

When Ranveer was announced as the lead actor of Don 3, he and the makers received a lot of flak from fans of Shah Rukh Khan, who played the role of Don in the last two films in the franchise. But Akhtar assured the audience that Raveen would do a “great job”. He told the BBC, “It really is about an actor coming in and owning the part and making it really like, giving it their style and their flair. And he has that, he has that in spades. So, he is going to do a great job. I think the responsibility is more mine now to make sure that the script and the film work out the way I imagine.”

Don 3 will hit the theatres in 2025.

Besides Don 3, Kiara also has the second film in the War franchise in the pipeline. She was last seen in Satyaprem Ki Katha, and was applauded for her performance as an assault victim.
