The Mammootty-starrer Bramayugam was released in theatres on Thursday, to critical and commercial success. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 3 crore on its opening day. It is to be noted that the film has only released in one language, Malayalam. Bramayugam got 128 shows in Kochi, and witnessed an occupancy of 69%. In Bengaluru, the film had 158 shows, but the occupancy rates were much lower, at 27.25%. Bramayugam has received critical appreciation upon its release, so it is expected that the film’s collections might increase over the weekend.
Mammootty was last seen in critically appreciated Kaathal-The Core, which was seen as one of the best Indian films of 2023. Kaathal-The Core made Rs 1.05 crore on its opening day and eventually made Rs 10.87 crore during its theatrical run. Kannur Squad, which was also released in 2023, opened at Rs 2.2 crore. Much like Bramayugam, Kaathal -The Core and Kannur Squad also released only in Malayalam. Bramayugam’s opening day figures exceed those of even the blockbuster 2018, which made a little over Rs 1 crore on day one before riding a wave of success across the country.

Bramayugam, directed by Rahul Sadasivan, also stars Arjun Ashokan, Sidharth Bharathan, Amalda Liz, Manikandan R Achari. During the trailer launch of the film in Abu Dhabi, Mammootty requested his fans to watch the film with an open mind. “While the trailer may have sparked various ideas, I urge you not to jump to conclusions about the story. I am saying this so that you are not disappointed [that the original narrative is different from your assumptions]. Watch the film without preconceived notions and refrain from anticipating the emotions it is going to elicit in you, as it can affect your viewing experience when the predictions come true.”
Director Rahul Sadasivan, in a chat with The Times of India, described the film as a “mystery thriller” and said that it “falls a little bit into the horror genre.” He also added that the plot here in not paranormal, “but a different kind of horror.”
