Director Siddharth Anand’s big-budget action film Fighter continued its descent after registering its lowest single-day haul yet. On day 14 of release, Fighter made Rs 2.7 crore in India, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, which takes its two-week total to Rs 184 crore. The film hasn’t had any competition in these past two weeks, but with the Shahid Kapoor-starrer Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya dropping on Friday, Fighter’s chances of flying past the Rs 200 crore mark will be impacted.

Starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, the film’s audience has been highly urban-centric, which has affected its performance during weekdays. Fighter had a massive drop on its first Monday before regaining lost altitude over its second weekend. But then, it fell again. Fighter made more than Rs 130 crore in its first weekend alone, which should indicate how front-loaded it has been.

Hrithik and Siddharth had two joint blockbusters under their belt already – the action films Bang Bang! and War, which delivered a combined gross of over Rs 800 crore globally. According to trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan, Fighter has grossed Rs 318 crore worldwide so far, and should pass the Rs 320 crore mark today. This means that the combined global gross for Hrithik and Siddharth’s three films together is now over Rs 1100 crore. Incidentally, this is about as much as Siddharth’s 2023 blockbuster, the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan, made individually.

Hrithik hasn’t had an outright hit since 2019’s War, and with Fighter poised to be slotted as an underperformer as well, this would make it Hrithik’s second film in a row, after Vikram Vedha, to struggle at the box office. The film reportedly cost Rs 250 crore to produce, which leaves little room for a theatrical profit.

Fighter would now hope to overtake the lifetime global haul of Bang Bang!, which stands at Rs 332 crore. As of today, it has surpassed that film’s domestic total of Rs 181 crore, but it should be noted that Bang Bang! was released a decade ago, and cost a fraction of Fighter. The film also stars Anil Kapoor, Akshay Oberoi and Karan Singh Grover.
