Music composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan is overwhelmed after winning his first Grammy trophy, along with Ustad Zakir Hussain, British guitarist John Mclaughlin, kanjira player V Selvaganesh, and violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan. After winning the prestigious award, the singer was asked how he was feeling and the impromptu tune had fans saying it was the ‘most Shankar Mahadevan response to the win’.
A video of him, along with V Selvaganesh and Ganesh Rajagopalan was shared on Reddit where he was asked on the red carpet, “How does it feel to win the Grammy today?” The singer-composer said, “Well it just feels like…” and pointed towards Selvaganesh, who started singing the taal of Indian classical music. Mahadevan and Rajagopalan followed him and the trio brilliantly summarised their feeling through music.
Then, Mahadevan continued, “Music is an amazing medium to convey peace, harmony and love. That’s what global music is all about.”

The Indo-jazz super group, Shakti, which was created by exchanging audio files over the internet and discussing them on a WhatsApp group, won the Grammy for Best Global Music Album at the 66th Grammys.

Mahadevan also penned a note of gratitude on social media, expressing his happiness. Sharing pictures of himself with the coveted Grammy trophy, Mahadevan wrote, “WE DID IT ❤️ I never imagined that a band from where I have learnt my music and my musical aesthetics would be the band with whom I would eventually perform and win a Grammy. This is the moment from which i can easily say that dreams do come true. Shakti was a dream which came true! thank you Almighty for making this happen! It’s truly “THIS MOMENT” ❤️🙏🏻.”

As Mahadevan posted about his win on Instagram, Farhan Akhtar congratulated him as he commented, “Congratulations Shankar .. here’s to first of many .. 🙌🏽♥️.” Shilpa Shetty wrote, “Congratulations 🙌🏼 Well deserved ..Sooo happy for you , great achievement for the country too👏🏽♥️” Vishal Dadlani said that India is proud of the music composer as he commented, “👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Well deserved @shankar.mahadevan !! India is proud!! 🙏🏽🤘🏽🇮🇳🇮🇳.”
While accepting the award, Mahadevan gave a shoutout to India as he said, “Thank you boys. Thank you God, family, friends and India. India, we are proud of you. Last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife, whom every note of my music is dedicated to.”
The 66th Grammys was held at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles, and this year India won big with five musicians from the country winning eight awards.
