The Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone-starrer Fighter was released in theatres on January 25 to strong box office response, but has since been struggling to maintain altitude. But after a few worrying days, the aerial action drama minted Rs 10 crore on its second Saturday, marking a jump of almost 80 percent from the previous day’s collection of Rs 5.75 crore. The total domestic collection of the film in India now stands at Rs 162.75 crore.

Fighter had an overall 24.52% Hindi occupancy on Saturday. Chennai recorded the highest occupancy, followed by Bengaluru, Pune and Mumbai. The makers announced that the film has grossed Rs 262 crore worldwide. But because Fighter cost a reported Rs 250 crore to produce, it has a lot of work to do before it can be counted as a success.

Fighter opened to Rs 22.50 crore and collected Rs 39.50 crore on the second day (Republic Day). The film performed well on the first Saturday and Sunday, minting Rs 27.50 crore and Rs 29 crore. However, Fighter could not pass the crucial Monday test, collecting Rs 8 crore. At the end of first week, Fighter collected Rs 146.50 crore.

Fighter has already surpassed the lifetime earnings of Hrithik’s last film, Vikram Vedha. However, it’s uncertain if it can surpass the domestic collection of Bang Bang, another film directed by Siddharth Anand and starring Hrithik. Bang Bang earned Rs 181 crore in India when it was released in 2014. Siddharth Anand and Hrithik also collaborated on War, which earned an impressive Rs 318 crore. There are reports that War 2 has started filming, with Ayan Mukerji at the helm.

Siddharth’s last film was Pathaan, with Shah Rukh Khan. The film was a blockbuster, collecting Rs 543 crore in India. When asked about Fighter’s underwhelming performance at the box office, Siddharth said on Gallata Plus, “Fighter is a huge leap for a filmmaker. It’s a space that is unexplored and absolutely new. It has no reference point for the audience. They are like, ‘What are these planes doing?’”
