Actor Teja Sajja is full of gratitude after his pan-India release HanuMan became a blockbuster not just in Telugu but across India. The film’s fantastic opening in the Telugu market, eventually spread across the country, entering the 200 crore club worldwide recently. Celebrating the success Prasanth recently announced his next project Jai Hanuman, which is a follow up to HanuMan. Teja, carefully answered about his involvement in the next film and confirmed that Lord Hanuman will be the central character.

Prasanth announced Jai Hanuman on January 22, on the occasion of Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir. In HanuMan, Teja played the role of Hanumanthu, a young man who receives the powers of Lord Hanuman and fights evil hovering over his village. However, in Jai Hanuman, the story will not be about a superhuman but will revolve around the god himself.

His role in Jai Hanuman

In a candid interview with indianexpress.com, Teja says, “The film (HanuMan) ends on a note that says what Lord HanuMan has promised Shree Ram. So the film (Jai Hanuman) will feature Lord Hanuman’s character as the main, primary character. I am not Hanuman, I am Hanu-Man . So it will predominantly be Lord Hanuman’s film but Hanu Man might also be part of it.”

HanuMan is currently inching towards collecting Rs 250 crore globally. In India itself, the film has collected Rs 147.15 crore across languages. This is a big achievement for the film, considering it clashed at the box office with Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram.

Guntur Kaaram, being a Mahesh Babu film had also got maximum screen and was touted as a blockbuster even before its release. While the film did do well in Telugu states, Teja’s HanuMan surpassed Guntur Kaaram’s daily collections after the first weekend.

On getting better response than Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram

“That was never the intention but we were confident that this film will have a 3-4 week run. We were never bothered about the first 2-3 days when we were clashing with Mahesh sir’s film and that was not a big concern for us. Of course we had a little bit of anxiety because of the screen allotment but otherwise, we were pretty cool about the whole idea because we wanted to cater this film to a larger audience and for the kids and the best time to do that is the holiday season and Sankranti is the best holiday season in South India.

He also feels its unfair to compare the two films. “Never in our dreams we imagined this and I think it will be like comparing apples to oranges if we compare it with a big star film, so it never even crossed our minds.”

While on the topic, Teja also proudly shares that HanuMan was a hit from the go in Telugu theatres. “It was a fantastic opening in Telugu. Everybody was shocked. We did 900 premieres. It was a record-breaking premiere. In Tollywood this has never happened. For a 6 o clock show on a working day, all shows were full. From the start only, when the first show ended, we knew that the work is done. That was my feeling at least.

What’s next for Teja Sajja?

Going forward, the young actor has already started shooting for his next film. He says its an ‘action adventure’. “It will be something cool with a new age idea. This time we are touching a little bit of history angle. It will be released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil. Kannada because the idea is very universal,” says Teja before signing off.

Besides Jai Hanuman, Prasanth has also announced another follow up titled Adhira.
