Malayalam actor Parvathy took to her social media on Wednesday as she applauded Ryan Gosling for standing up for Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie after the director and actor were snubbed out of the Oscars race. While Ryan has secured a nomination under the Best Supporting Actor category for his portrayal of Ken, Greta and Margot did not secure nominations for the biggest Hollywood grosser of the year.

In a statement, Ryan said that there is no Ken without Barbie and there is no Barbie without Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig. Parvathy was moved by his statement and said that there is no Ryan Gosling in India to stand up for women.

On her Instagram Story, she shared Ryan’s statement and wrote, “This made me ache because there are no Ryan Goslings here. Here, no matter the talent, no matter the contribution–woman who speak up and know their value will be avoided like plague. Replaced with ‘less problematic people’. Problematic for them, because how else can they benefit from the inequality, if challenged.” She added, “But I am happy some woman knows what it’s like to have allies who use their power and voice to elevate those who are truly deserving.”

Earlier, Parvathy had spoken up about being called a ‘difficult person to work with’ because she stands up for herself.

After the announcement of Oscar nominations, Ryan Gosling, in a statement, said, “There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film,” and added, “No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit, and genius. Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees.”

Singer Chinmayi Sripadaa shared the screenshot of Parvathy’s Instagram story, and tweeted on X, “Parvathy is the hero we all need and deserve.”
