The biographical drama Main Atal Hoon, starring Pankaj Tripathi, was released in theatres on Friday, but hasn’t been able to make much of an impact at the box office in its first five days of release. On Tuesday, its fifth day in theatres, the film could only earn Rs 75 lakh, reported industry tracker Sacnilk. The film is a biopic of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The total box office collection of the film now stands at Rs 7.1 crore. Main Atal Hoon started its theatrical run with Rs 1.15 crore on Friday. It showed some growth over Saturday and Sunday, collecting Rs 2.1 crore and Rs 2.4 crore, respectively. But it failed the first Monday test miserably, with earnings dropping to Rs 70 lakh.

Now, with the upcoming release of Fighter, the big-budget action-drama led by Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, Main Atal Hoon is expected to witness a further drop in collections. Directed by Siddharth Anand, Fighter will hit theatres on January 25.

Directed by Ravi Jadhav, Main Atal Hoon also stars Piyush Mishra, Raja Rameshkumar Sevak, Daya Shankar Pandey, Pramod Pathak, Paayal Kapoor Nair, Harshad Kumar, Prasanna Ketkar, Haresh Khatri, Paula McGlynn, and Gauri Sukhtankar. The film chronicles Vajpayee’s impactful journey in Indian politics. Recent political biopics such as Thalaivii and PM Narendra Modi also didn’t make much of an impact at the box office.

Though Pankaj Tripathi’s performance has been appreciated in some circles, reviews for the film have been poor. The Indian Express’ film critic Shubhra Gupta wrote in her review, “Despite Pankaj Tripathi’s inspired portrayal, the film is reduced to a rah-rah hagiography of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and fails to do justice to his multiple facets.”
