Jr NTR has struck box-office gold with his recent film, Devara Part 1, directed by Koratala Siva. The reach of the film where he has played the dual role of Devara and Vara has been phenomenal, and it has set the yardstick for measuring the success of a South Indian film. Apart from Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor, Devara didn’t have any other marquee name from the pan-Indian market to warrant such an opening. It is purely on the commercial pull of Jr NTR and the premise of Devara that audiences keep pouring in to watch this two-part action drama. Also, full points to the extensive promotions, especially in the Hindi market, which has resulted in earning a solid Rs 12.25 crore on the 2nd Sunday of its release, with Hindi contributing almost Rs 3.75 crore. It is impressive how the Hindi version continues to hold strong, and contribute such a solid number day after day.

With the domestic tally standing at 243.1 crore after its ten-day run, Devara has had a solid Rs 27.5 crore run in the second weekend. In fact, over the weekend the numbers just got better with every passing day, and the film is showing no signs of slowing down, especially since its only competition is Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan, which is hitting the screens on October 10. The Telugu version of the film, titled Vettaiyan the Hunter, might pose a significant challenge to the run of the Jr NTR film. However, if it braves the Rajinikanth tide, there is nothing stopping the Devara juggernaut till Diwali.

With the global box-office numbers, released by the makers, suggesting that the 400 crore mark was breached on October 4 after 7 days of its run. It is safe to assume that the Rs 500 crore mark isn’t that far away, considering the success of the film in the global markets.
