Jaane Jaan became one of the most-watched Indian films on Netflix with impressive global viewership in September last year. The film received positive reviews, with a special mention for the standout performances by Kareena Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Vijay Varma. To suit the film’s narrative, the project was entirely shot in the scenic surroundings near Darjeeling. However, prior to filming, director Sujoy Ghosh faced skepticism about casting Kareena, with many insisting, “Kareena Kapoor would never agree to shoot there.”

In a recent interview with Mashable India, Ghosh addressed the misconceptions surrounding Kapoor when he cast her in his murder mystery. He noted there is a significant difference between the actor’s public perception and her dedication to their work. “When you see someone publicly, it’s easy to form an opinion about them. Many told me Kareena would never shoot in Darjeeling, but that wasn’t the case. She committed fully to the project. Her dedication to work is commendable”, shared Sujoy Ghosh.

He further shared the reason behind casting Kareena for the role, and said, “When writing a character, I always create a face in my mind. When I was writing the role of a mother who works round the clock to support her child, with no time to prioritise herself, but still looks pretty, I see Kareena. Thankfully, when she agreed to take on the role, half my work was done. From that point on, it was up to her to drive the film forward.”

Based on the novel Devotion of Suspect X, Ghosh originally wanted to make this film back in 2015 with Saif Ali Khan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles, but the project didn’t materialise.
