US-British airstrikes were launched on more than a dozen Houthi targets across several locations in Yemen, including capital Sanaa, and Hodeidah airport, news agency Reuters reported, citing reports from Al Masirah TV, the Houthi-run news outlet, and local residents. Strikes were also reported in the southern part of Dhamar city.

However, a British government source quoted by Reuters has denied its involvement.

These strikes focused on weapons systems, bases, and other equipment associated with the Iran-backed group. Military aircraft and warships targeted Houthi strongholds across approximately five locations, as reported by AP, citing US officials..

According to Houthi media, seven strikes impacted the airport in Hodeida, a key port city, as well as the Katheib area, which contains a Houthi-controlled military base. Additionally, four strikes were reported in the Seiyana area of Sanaa, the capital, while two targeted Dhamar province. Houthi reports also indicated three air raids in Bayda province, southeast of Sanaa.

These airstrikes followed the Houthi claim that they had shot down a US military drone flying over Yemen earlier in the week and in response to attacks by Iran-aligned Houthi militants on international shipping near Yemen. These attacks, which began last November, were conducted in solidarity with Palestinians amidst Israel’s conflict with Hamas.

The Houthi actions have triggered retaliatory strikes from the US and Britain, leading to disruptions in global trade as shipping companies redirect vessels away from the Red Sea and Suez Canal, opting for the longer route around the southern tip of Africa.

The strikes also come amidst the escalating tensions in West Asia involving Israel, Iran and Lebanon.
