Asha Negi rose to fame with her roles in Pavitra Rishta and Baarish. Before landing the lead role in the Ekta Kapoor show, the actress appeared in small roles in daily soaps like Sapnon Se Bhare Naina and Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. Recalling her initial days, Asha, in a recent interview, recalled how a coordinator was brainwashing her to compromise to get work.

Recalling her casting couch experience, Asha told Hauterrfly, “Back then, there were coordinators. I met a guy who started to tell me how the television industry worked. I was just 22. Gradually, he began to brainwash me, suggesting that this is how you succeed—otherwise, you can’t.” The actress added that although he didn’t speak directly about compromising herself, his insinuations were clear.

After understanding his intentions, Asha bravely responded: “If this is how things work, then I’m not interested.” Despite acting confident, she admitted to feeling terrified inside. The Pavitra Rishta star then recalled confiding in a friend, whose nonchalant reaction shocked her. “He just said, ‘All this happens; it’s normal.’ He wasn’t shocked at all,” shared the actress.

Asha Negi also opened up about her experiences with eve teasing. She recalled a distressing incident from her school days: “I was walking with my best friend when a guy on a bicycle touched me inappropriately. I was in shock and wanted to scream, but I felt choked and ended up crying when I got home. I felt terrible for making my parents hear about it.”

Another incident occurred during her college years when a man inappropriately touched her in a crowded place. This time, she confronted him. “I asked, ‘What did you do?’ He acted innocent, saying, ‘What?’ I got angry and screamed, ‘You don’t know what you did?’ before slapping him multiple times. Others joined in and beat him up. I wish I had thanked them for their support.”

After her successful television career, Asha Negi made her Bollywood debut with Anurag Basu’s Ludo.
