Former First Lady Melania Trump has hinted at her support for abortion rights in a video promoting her new book. In the black-and-white clip posted on her social media, Mrs. Trump speaks about the importance of “individual freedom,” calling it an essential right for women from birth.

This statement follows the release of an excerpt from her upcoming memoir, Melania, where she takes a clearer pro-choice stance. In the excerpt, Mrs. Trump writes, “It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government.”

Her position appears to conflict with that of her husband, former President Donald Trump, who played a key role in the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, removing federal protection for abortion rights. Despite this, Mrs. Trump’s comments emphasize a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body.

Melania Trump’s book, set for release on October 8, is expected to delve further into her views on women’s rights and individual freedom.

Abortion rights are expected to be a major issue in the 2024 presidential election.

Donald Trump’s fluctuating stance on the matter has sparked debate within the Republican party, as he has avoided taking a firm position on a national abortion ban. This has left some conservatives frustrated while providing an opening for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who has highlighted Trump’s role in overturning Roe v. Wade.
