Iran launched a significant missile barrage over the Old City in Jerusalem, with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reporting that more than 180 missiles were fired towards Israel.

Tehran claimed the attacks were a direct response to the killings of leaders of Iran-backed militant groups. The Revolutionary Guards Corps stated that the strike was retaliation for the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah the previous week, as well as the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in a bombing in Tehran that many attribute to Israel.

Footage shared by the IDF on social media platform X captured munitions illuminating the night sky over Jerusalem as they breached Israeli airspace.

Sirens sounded throughout Israel, warning residents to seek shelter and remain there until the threat passed. The Israeli military later confirmed, “A short while ago, missiles were launched from Iran towards the State of Israel.”

Approximately an hour later, the military declared that the threat had subsided, allowing people to leave protected areas across the country. They reported a “large number” of Iranian missiles had been intercepted.

US destroyers assisted Israeli air units in responding to what was described as a “defeated and ineffective” Iranian ballistic missile attack, according to a US official, as reported by AP.
