Rishabh Pant made his impact in the last tour Down Under with a couple of crucial knocks at Sydney and Brisbane. In addition to his batting capabilities, the 26-year-old has been chirpy behind the stumps and was involved in friendly banters with the opposition regularly. Australian white ball skipper Mitchell Marsh would go on to say “I wish he was Australian”.

“He’s a ripping bloke. He’s been through a lot over the last few years, and it’s been a hell of a comeback. He’s a positive guy, still young, and he loves winning. He’s highly competitive for someone who has the persona of being relaxed and always laughing and smiling. He’s got that big smile,” Marsh said on Star Sports.

“The Indian cricketer I believe is most Australian would be Rishabh Pant. I think the way he goes about his aggressive nature and his work ethic would make him very enjoyable to play with,” said other Australian player Travis Head. Pant has scored 624 runs in Australia at an average of 62.40.

Pant is ideal keeper for Australia

“If Pant can perform at his best, he’s the ideal keeper for Australian conditions. If he’s able to continue with his agile performance standing back, that is what is required in Australia. You need a keeper who capably covers a lot of territory to both sides of the wicket,” wroteformer cricketer Ian Chappell in his ESPN Cricinfo Column “Any keeper who fulfills those requirements not only improves the team’s fielding but also allows the slip fielders to spread wider to cover extra territory.”

“Pant’s keeping standing up to the stumps drastically improved before his serious injury, following an ultimatum from coach Ravi Shastri. The fact that Pant progressed from being a dubious keeper against spinners to a very good gloveman standing up to the stumps, admirably displayed his willingness to work hard,” Chappell added.
