Actor and Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan, has responded to actor Karthi’s apology over his comments regarding the ongoing Tirupati temple laddu controversy. Pawan took to X (formerly Twitter) to appreciate Karthi’s gesture in apologizing but also advised the actor to “handle such topics with care” and reminded him of the responsibility public figures have to “foster unity.”
He wrote, “Dear @Karthi_Offl garu, I sincerely appreciate your kind gesture and swift response, as well as the respect you’ve shown towards our shared traditions. Matters concerning our sacred institutions, like Tirupati and its revered laddus, carry deep emotional weight for millions of devotees, and it’s essential for all of us to handle such topics with care. That said, I wanted to bring this to your notice with no intentions behind it, and I understand the situation was unintentional.”
He added, “Our responsibility as public figures is to foster unity and respect, especially regarding what we cherish most—our culture and spiritual values. Let’s always strive to uplift these values while continuing to inspire through cinema. I would also like to express my admiration for you as a remarkable actor whose dedication and talent have consistently enriched our cinema.”

Pawan also took the opportunity to wish the team of Meiyazhagan—which is releasing in Telugu as Sathyam Sundaram—good luck. He wrote, “Wishing you, @Suriya_offl garu, #Jyotika garu, and the entire team at @2D_ENTPVTLTD a successful release of #Meiyazhagan / #SathyamSundaram. May it resonate with audience and bring joy to many.”
Suriya promptly responded in the comments, thanking Pawan for his kind words. He wrote, “Thank you for your heartfelt wishes, sir!” Karthi also responded, saying, “Thank you for your hearty wishes, dear sir!”
The controversy began at a promotional event for Meiyazhagan in Hyderabad, where Karthi asked a reporter not to bring up the “laddu row,” which didn’t sit well with Pawan Kalyan. At the event, Karthi had said, “Ipudu laddu gurinchi matladakoddu. Sensitive topic adi. Manaki oddu adi (Let’s not talk about laddus now. It’s a sensitive topic. We don’t need it).”
Pawan was displeased with how Karthi addressed the issue and responded strongly. He said, “You’re joking about laddu…I saw how it was talked about at a movie event yesterday, how laddu is a sensitive issue. Don’t you ever say that, no. Don’t you ever dare to say that please. I respect you as actors, but when it comes to Sanatana Dharma, please, you have to think hundred times before you say a word.”
After Pawan aired his displease, Karthi apologised on X and wrote, “Dear @PawanKalyan sir, with deep respects to you, I apologize for any unintended misunderstanding caused. As a humble devotee of Lord Venkateswara, I always hold our traditions dear. Best regards.”
