Actor Nitanshi Goel must be over the moon after her film Laapata Ladies was announced on Monday as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025. Nitanshi was in the 9th standard when she shot for the film, and by the time promotions began, she had reached the 11th standard. However, she had to miss her final exams of 11th standard due to her commitment to promote the film.

In a previous interaction with Ranveer Allahbadia, Nitanshi shared how she eventually took her exams later, during which she received a lot of appreciation from her teachers. She recalled, “So, I gave the exams later. During the exam, a teacher came to me and said, ‘You’ve done such good work!’ The invigilator, who was there, said, ‘Let her complete her exam then we all will get a chance to talk to her, click selfies with her and tell her how good she was.’ They all have rooted for me. I couldn’t tell them what exactly was the film I was doing earlier, but now that they’ve watched it I hope they’re proud of me. I’m now in class 12, studying commerce, and I’ll of course give the board exams, which will be next year.”

Nitanshi also revealed that despite the demanding shooting schedule, she never compromised on her studies and always made time to focus on academics, even during the film’s shoot. “I took my exams just before the shooting of Laapataa Ladies. And a day after the shooting, I had my Class 9 final exams. So, the time I got to prepare for my exam was during the break in between the shots. I used to carry my science and maths books with me,” she said.

Directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan, Laapata Ladies tells the story of two young brides who are accidentally swapped during a train journey to their husbands’ homes. The film also stars Pratibha Ranta and Sparsh Srivastava.
