Abbas Tyrewala, who is known for writing films like Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Maqbool, recently revealed how Vishal Bharadwaj gave up his co-writer’s fees to pay him. Abbas recalled, “Those were the times when writers were not well-paid.”

In a recent interview with Cyrus, Abbas Tyrewala talked about the three people who have had strong influence on him. He said, “The three people who had definitive influences on my life are Vishal Bharadwaj, Rajkumar Hirani, and Farah Khan.” Hearing this, Cyrus asked, “Who paid you the most?”. Abbas Tyrewala quickly replied, “No one paid me. Those were not days when writers got paid.”

He added, “The closest I have come to being decently paid was when poor Vishal Bharadwaj said, ‘I can’t give you so little money’ because that was the budget for the writer. Even though he was joint screenplay writer, he didn’t take any money himself and gave it all to me. Those were not the days when writers were well-paid. He was capable of gestures like that.”
