Nayanthara, in her stellar filmography cutting across linguistic boundaries, has never been part of a sequel. Vels Film International, the makers of her ‘divine’ blockbuster Mookuthi Amman, had earlier announced that Nayanthara would tick that box by reprising the role in the sequel titled Mookuthi Amman 2. With their latest announcement, the makers also enabled Nayanthara to tick yet another box in her career. Mookuthi Amman 2 marks her maiden collaboration with director Sundar C, who was announced as the director of this ambitious project.

Announcing this update on their social media handles, the makers wrote, “Welcoming The King of Commercial Entertainers, Director Sundar C to the Divine Fantasy World of MA-2.” Notably, the first part was helmed by actor-filmmaker RJ Balaji, who isn’t part of the sequel. However, there are speculations that he is making a ‘divine fantasy’ film of his own with Trisha in the lead.

Through his Aranmanai films, Sundar C has already established his credentials in handling ‘divine’ subjects as his horror comedy franchise always had a heavy dose of the ‘Amman’ presence. It would be interesting to see if he replicates the conviction of the Aranmanai films and gives us a full-blown ‘Amman padam’ or takes the satirical route of the original. The film is expected to go on floors after Sundar C completes the work on his next directorial, Gangers, which reunites him with comedy legend Vadivelu.
