GOAT box office collection day 2: ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s latest film, The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), witnessed a significant drop in its box office collections on day two. The film, which opened to a strong Rs 44 crore on Thursday, collected Rs 24.75 crore India nett in all languages, according to early estimates posted by industry tracker Sacnilk. The film’s India total stands at Rs 68.75 crore nett after two days.

On day one, the Tamil version of the film alone contributed to a staggering Rs 39 crore, but on day two, the Tamil collections dropped to Rs 22 crore. Meanwhile, in the Hindi language, the film dropped from Rs 1.85 crore to Rs 1.5 crore. In the Telugu language, GOAT witnessed a 50% drop with collections of just Rs 1.5 crore, half of what it collected on Thursday (Rs 3 crore).

The Tamil version of the film had over 3000 shows across India with 1024 shows in Chennai alone. This was followed by 788 shows in Bengaluru, and 104 shows in Mumbai and 69 in the Delhi-NCR region. The film had over 700 shows in Telugu and over 800 shows in Hindi. Despite having over 4500 shows in all languages, the film witnessed an overall occupancy of 60.38% in the Tamil language with the majority of the crowd watching the night shows. On Friday, AGS Entertainment (the production and distribution company behind the film), announced that GOAT had earned Rs 126.32 crore globally on its opening day, which is considerably lower than the global opening day numbers of Vijay’s last venture, Leo. That film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, earned Rs 148.5 crore on its opening day last year. GOAT is touted to be ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s penultimate film before he embarks on a career in politics.

Leo, made on a budget of Rs 225 crore, remains Vijay’s highest-grossing film, with a whopping Rs 618.5 crore collection worldwide. However, there are chances of GOAT surpassing the lifetime collection of Vijay’s other four highest-grossing films — Bigil (Rs 304 crore), Varisu (Rs 303 crore), Mersal (Rs 257 crore), and Sarkar (Rs 253 crore).
