After a three-year break, Angelina Jolie is all set to make a comeback in the movies as an actor as well as a writer-director with her films Maria, and Without Blood, respectively. She was last seen in the 2021 Marvel film Eternals, while her last directorial venture was the 2017 film, First They Killed My Father. In a recent interview, Jolie opened up about staying away from work, and her plans of moving out of Los Angeles. She also made a rare public acknowledgement of her acrimonious divorce proceedings with Brad Pitt.

In a conversation with the Hollywood Reporter, she revealed the reason she waited this long to act and direct again is because she “needed to be home more” with her kids. Jolie, mother to six children–Maddox (23), Pax (20), Zahara (19), Shiloh (18), and her twins Vivienne and Knox (16), also revealed she will leave LA as soon as her twins turn 18.

She said, “I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave. When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be… that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here.”

She added, “[After Los Angeles,] I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I’ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.”

Revealing why she’s back at work again, the 49-year-old said, “They (her children) are bit older, getting more independent. I am less needed and so, I’m able to go away for different periods of time. And they’re old enough to join me at work. It’s new season in our lives.”

Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt in 2016, two years after their marriage. However, nearly eight years later, the estranged couple is still negotiating their settlement. She refused to talk about the status of her divorce proceeding in the interview.

Meanwhile, a source close to Brad Pitt told PEOPLE, “It’s pretty shocking that the couple still can’t find a resolution and finalise the divorce.” The source further claimed the major reason for their unhappiness before Angelina filed for divorce was their frequent clashes over parenting. The source said, “The former couple always had different approached to life just in general considering Pitt didn’t grow up in Hollywood but Jolie did.”

Jolie and Pitt continue to argue over custody and finances. They also made headlines for their dispute over the French winery Chateau Miraval.

Maria, directed by Pablo Larrain, is the biopic of opera’s defining diva, Maria Callas. Jolie will be seen in the lead role. The film will be premiered at the Venice, Telluride, and New York film festivals in her presence. The film will be released on Netflix in the US. Meanwhile, her directorial film Without Blood, based on Alessandro Baricco’s 2002 novel, will be premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, where she will be honoured with a tribute award.
