Star-studded films seem to be the name of the game in today’s cinema, especially in Tamil. After the blockbuster successes of Jailer, Rajinikanth’s film with Nelson Dilipkumar, and Lokesh Kanagaraj-Kamal Haasan’s Vikram, it is becoming increasingly attractive to have a film with a galaxy of stars. Coolie, Lokesh’s upcoming film with Rajinikanth, is the next movie to hop on to this bandwagon.

It has been raining updates from the film, which is already on floors. Even though there were no official updates from the makers about the cast of Coolie, speculations were flying left, right, and centre. To validate these speculations, Sun Pictures, the makers of Coolie, have been announcing the names of the cast members. First of, it was revealed that Soubin Shahir, who recently won the hearts of many with his role in Manjummel Boys, would make his Tamil debut with Coolie. Sharing a cool poster of Soubin, the makers revealed that his name in the film was Dayal. Next up, it was revealed that Coolie would mark another first… the maiden collaboration between Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna. The Telugu star exuded suaveness and charm as Simon in the character poster that became the talk of the town for Nagarjuna’s inimitable style. The latest to join the cast of Coolie is Shruti Haasan, who will essay the role of Preethi. This is the first time Shruti will be working with her father Kamal Haasan’s long-time friend and healthy rival, Rajinikanth.

With so many firsts coming into play, the excitement is high for what Lokesh and Co have planned for the coming days. Considering how the names of Sathyaraj, Upendra and Aamir Khan are doing the rounds as the possible additions to the cast of Coolie, it is expected that the next set of updates will either validate or put to rest these rumours.

Coolie marks the fourth consecutive collaboration between Lokesh Kanagaraj and music director Anirudh Ravichander after Master, Vikram, and Leo. The filmmaker is reuniting with his Vikram cinematographer Girish Gangadharan for the project, which has editing by Philomin Raj, and stunt choreography by the National Award-winning duo, Anbariv.
