It’s going to be an unmissable event as the Akhtars come together live on stage for the first time. Multiple National Award-winning screenwriter Javed Akhtar and his filmmaker daughter Zoya Akhtar will be the guests at the third session of Expresso, to be held in Mumbai on Thursday. The Indian Express series will feature the father-daughter duo as they take the center stage to discuss art, poetry, politics, career and all things that make them a powerful cultural force of the country.

The session will be moderated by Anant Goenka, Executive Director, The Indian Express Group and Head of New Media at The Indian Express along with Pratap Bhanu Mehta, Columnist and Contributing Editor at the Indian Express. Expresso will be held at The Taj Mahal Hotel and will also be streaming live on the official pages on YouTube and Instagram.

Javed Akhtar, who has been honoured with Padma Bhushan, is a cinema icon credited with shaping the course of the Hindi film industry with his powerful writing that revolutionised cinema. Along with his co-writer Salim Khan, Javed Akhtar created the ‘Angry Young Man’ of cinema in the 70s–played by megastar Amitabh Bachchan– leading to the birth of a movie character type that is still found on-screen, modified by new-age filmmakers.

The third session of Expresso will be held on Thursday.

His career and his long-standing historic partnership with Salim Khan are also the subject of Prime Video’s latest docu-series Angry Young Men, which delves into the life and times of Salim-Javed; how they came together and why they fell apart.

Redefining the movie landscape continued with Zoya Akhtar, who has also changed the grammar of modern-day Hindi cinema with her deeply personal films, from her acclaimed debut Luck by Chance, the road trip blockbuster Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara to Ranveer Singh starrer Gully Boy, which was India’s official entry to the Oscars in 2019.

Expresso, which is a six-part series of conversations with experts from the world of entertainment, luxury, art and culture, kickstarted with much fanfare in April with Vidya Balan and Pratik Gandhi followed by the second edition in July which featured actor Taapsee Pannu and filmmaker Imtiaz Ali.
