Richard Simmons’ cause of death has been revealed a month after he was found dead in his home.

The Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office told Simmons’ brother, Lenny Simmons, that the legendary fitness instructor died due to “complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor,” family spokesperson Tom Estey tells Wednesday.

“The toxicology report was negative other than medication Richard had been prescribed,” the rep says, also noting that the manner of death was ruled as “accidental.”

He concludes, “The Family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss.” People was first to report Richard’s cause of death.

However, a rep for the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner, adds to Wednesday, “The cause of death and report are not yet finalized, and the report has not been released.”

Etsy tells in response, “Lenny was contacted by the coroner’s office this morning, and simply reported what he was told.”

On July 13, law enforcement told TMZ that Richard had suffered a fall inside his bathroom the night prior and that his housekeeper found him the following morning at around 10 a.m. local time.

The beloved workout instructor — who catapulted to fame in the ’80s and ’90s — was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene. He was 76 years old.

Richard reportedly refused to get medical help after his fall, with a source previously telling TMZ that his housekeeper asked him to get treatment but he asked to go to bed instead.

The fitness guru reportedly told his employee he would try to go to the doctor the next morning.

Despite the accident, his housekeeper has said that she believes Richard died from a heart attack.

Teresa Reveles told People last month that she noticed her boss’ hands were balled into fists when she found him, and added, “I had a heart attack a few years ago, and my hands did the same.”

She concluded, however, that Richard “died happy” as he “looked peaceful” when she found him.
