Thangalaan box office collection Day 2: Vikram’s Thangalaan released in cinemas on Thursday and started its box office journey with Rs 13.3 crore. On the second day, however, the collections saw a steep decline as the film only earned Rs 4.22 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This takes the film’s nett domestic box office total of the film stands at Rs 17.65 crore.

Directed by Pa Ranjith, the Vikram-starrer witnessed a sharp dip of about 68.27 percent on day two in cinemas. On Friday, Thangalaan witnessed an overall 32.57 percent Tamil occupancy. In Chennai, where there were 427 shows, the occupancy observed was 26 percent. In Bengaluru, the occupancy stood at 29 percent with 186 shows.

According to the makers, the film grossed Rs 26.44 crore worldwide on opening day. The film is set to release in Hindi speaking regions of the country on August 30.

Talking about Telugu market, Thangalaan witnessed an overall 36.46 percent Telugu occupancy. In Hyderabad, with 156 shows, the film witnessed 34.75 percent occupancy. In other parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, there were far lesser shows because of the release of two other Telugu films – Ravi Teja’s Mr Bachchan and Ram Pothineni’s Double iSmart.

Thangalaan’s performance can be compared to recent Tamil films like Dhanush’s Raayan and Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2. Raayan earned Rs 13.75 crore on its second day and went on to make Rs 150.25 crore. Indian 2 earned Rs 21.1 crore on its second day and managed to bring in Rs 148.83 through its run.

Thangalaan also stars Vikram Kennedy, Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Pasupathy in key roles.
