Renowned for his comic timing, dance skills, and charismatic screen presence, Govinda has often been criticised for being a late-lateef (latecomer) by his peers and directors. However, not many know that Chi Chi, as he is fondly called, has done films for free to help out his industry friends as well as made a few special appearances to save the day. Inder Raj Bhasin, also known as Coca Cola, faced a series of unfortunate events that nearly derailed his film career. His troubles ranged from financial difficulties and personal betrayals to significant production issues. During this challenging period, Govinda stepped in to help him.

Govinda decided to work on Bhasin’s film Kaun Rokega Mujhe for free and completed it in just 25 days. “He did not even charge me for that. He even refused to take a penny as conveyance for coming to the shoot. He also danced in two songs, and I changed the script considerably to accommodate him in the major role of a police officer. Govinda even came for rehearsals,” Bhasin told Rediff.com in an old interview.

Despite his own success, Govinda chose to quietly support his old acquaintance, acknowledging the role Inder Raj Bhasin had played in his early career by recommending him to filmmakers. “I helped Bhasin out because at one point in my life when I was desperately trying to get into the industry, he very sincerely tried to help me out,” Govinda was quoted as saying, adding, “When you help someone, it is help; it’s not something to be publicised.”

Bhasin, having gone through numerous hardships, including financial ruin and personal disputes, was in dire need of support. Govinda not only did the film for free but also paid for his own travel. “I live in a rented flat. But the moment my film is sold, I shall be able to buy a house and provide my children with a roof over their heads. I can never forget the help he gave me. I shall be forever indebted to him… Some people whom I had helped refused to acknowledge it and here was Govinda coming like Moses to guide me out of trouble,” Bhasin added.
