Filmmaker Karan Johar recently appeared on the first episode of comedian Zakir Khan’s chat show Aapka Apna Zakir. On the couch, KJo opened up about his family and career. One such anecdote was about his mother Hiroo Johar. In the episode, Zakir asked Karan if it was true that his mother called his friends from the industry asking about his work ethic and if he knew his job. Karan responded by saying yes and recalled the time she called his good friend Shah Rukh Khan.

Karan narrated, “She had called Shah Rukh Khan also once. There was a time when SRK had shown a lot of faith in me and she was very concerned to know why he was doing that. So she called him and said, ‘We are not in a very good position, Duplicate is a flop, and Karan wants to be a director.’ She asked him, ‘Does he know his job or not, you have seen him as an assistant on Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge. Please be truthful because by being honest, you would save us from many losses.’ Funnily she never asked me about myself, but him about me.”
During the conversation, Karan Johar also shared how his biggest regret was that his father Yash Johar was not by his side when Dharma Productions was going through its best phase. When Zakir asked Karan how he manages to kill it at the box office every time, the filmmaker said, “I have never felt that I killed it at the box office, I feel the money will go, the film will flop and I will be on the roads because I am a producer’s son.”

Karan Johar also shared that his father took a very heavy loan to produce his initial films and when they flopped, he felt very bad to see Yash Johar go through that phase.
On the work front, Karan Johar’s latest production Bad Newz performed decently, while Kill garnered a lot of appreciation. As a director, his last project Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani also was quite successful.
