Shawn Mendes almost added “Dad” to his résumé.

The singer reveals in his new song “Why Why Why” that he had a pregnancy scare with an unidentified woman.

“I thought I was about to be a father,” he sings during the bridge of the track, released Friday. “Shook me to the core / I’m still a kid.”

Mendes, 26, has dated Camila Cabello on and off for the past five years.

The “Señorita” collaborators started seeing each other in July 2019 and first broke up in November 2021.

They had a PDA-filled reunion at Coachella in April 2023 but fizzled out again just weeks later.

Mendes and Cabello were most recently spotted together last month at a soccer tournament in Miami, but the “Havana” singer, 27, posted about “heartache” on Instagram soon after, so it is unclear where they currently stand.

During the many breaks in his relationship with Cabello, the “In My Blood” crooner has been linked to his chiropractor Jocelyne Miranda, fellow pop star Sabrina Carpenter and TV personality Charlie Travers.

“Why Why Why” is the first single off Mendes’ forthcoming album, “Shawn.”

The Grammy nominee also released the music video for the folky track Friday, in which he strums an acoustic guitar near a campfire, dives into a lake and goes shirtless.

“Shawn,” Mendes’ first album since 2020’s “Wonder,” is set to be released on Oct. 18.

He recently wrote on Instagram that he “had absolutely no idea” who he was two years ago, “so to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift.”
