The 69th SOBHA Filmfare Awards South 2024 was held in Hyderabad to celebrate the best of Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam cinema of 2023. With South cinema gaining prominence on not just the national stage, but on the global stage too, many of the recipients of the award weren’t just ‘regional’ stars but pan-Indian stars.

Hosted by Faria Abdullah, Sundeep Kishan, and Vindhya Vishaka, the awards show featured stellar performances from Gayathri Bharadwaj, Saniya Iyappan, and Aparna Balamurali.

The show featured a lot of heartfelt moments, including Nani present on stage to give Srikanth Odela and Shouryuv, the awards for Best Debut Director for his films, Dasara and Hi Nanna. Another bittersweet moment was actor Mammootty, who received his 15th Filmfare award for Best Actor, talking about how this sweet moment is actually overshadowed by the grief engulfing him due to the Wayanad landslides in Kerala that has resulted in major loss of lives and livelihoods.

While Dasara, Balagam and Baby won big in Telugu, it was Sapta Sagaradaache Ello taking home the big prizes in Kannada. Ponniyin Selvan 2 and Chittha shared the spoils in Tamil, and Malayalam had an eclectic set of winners.
