Director Rohit Shetty is all set to return with Khatron Ke Khiladi 14 this weekend. This is his ninth season as a host and the tenth year associating with the reality show. A hitmaker when it comes to both action and comedy, there is an entire genre that can be called ‘Rohit Shetty school of filmmaking’ — big action set pieces and bigger laughs, all wrapped up in an entertaining mainstream masala. With the all-new season of Khatron Ke Khiladi returning, Rohit sits down for a candid conversation with Indianexpress.com sharing what is his biggest fear, his association with the reality show, and also being the man who started a cinematic universe in Bollywood.

Talking of Khatron Ke Khiladi 14, he says, “It’s an action-based show, and very close to my heart. The love the audience has given especially to me is what makes me come back and do this show every time.” How he raises the bar when it comes to stunts on the show, Rohit says, “It is difficult, especially for the team. In one season we do around 70-80 stunts, given its popularity we do the show every year.”

“This year we made it a point that we will not repeat any of our stunts. So this season was very difficult. This time 90 percent of the stunts are new,” Rohit shares. He also goes on to say how all of them are like a family now, Rohit shares that he is involved in the planning of stunts, choosing the contestants and guiding them.

When asked what is Rohit Shetty scared of, what are his fears? He said, “Usually, I don’t get scared of anything where action is concerned, but obviously I am a father. So, you are always worried for your kids and loved ones. That is the only thing you fear and pray for their well-being. As a human being you get stressed, overwhelmed, or even face fear for some time, but for me, I overcome all those things very fast.”

He counts setting up the cop universe also as a risk. The Singham 3 director said, “It was a big risk, nobody had done that, it was happening for the first time. It happened with Simmba and for us, it was like if we were bringing in such a big character, people would understand that we are trying to create that universe in this country. It worked and now everyone is making a universe.”

Rohit has always been a very practical man when it came to dealing with failures in the industry, and accepts that there are more talented people than him in the Hindi film industry. “The kind of love I have gotten from the audience is something. I never imagined I would achieve so much when I started out. I feel very lucky for the recognition I get when I go out, people meet me with so much warmth. Ek apnaapan hota hai when they meet me, so I feel blessed. It has nothing to do with my talent, there are many more talented directors than me.”

On the work front, after Khatron Ke Khiladi 14 premieres on 27th July on Colors TV, Rohit will also bring Singham 3 as a part of his cop universe. The film stars popular names like Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Tiger Shroff, Ajay Devgn, Jackie Shroff, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Arjun Kapoor. The film is slated to release around Diwali this year.
