The trailer of Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey and Sunny Kaushal starrer Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba dropped on Thursday. The film, which is a sequel to 2021’s Haseen Dillruba, seems to start after the events of the first film where Rishu (Massey) and Rani (Pannu) reunited after Rishu lost his arm and pretended to die in front of the world. Now, Rani has a new lover Abhimanyu (Kaushal) and things between her and Rishu seem just as toxic as they did in the previous film. Jimmy Shergill joins the cast this season.

This time around, Rani and Rishu are living in Agra but it doesn’t look like they ever got the happy ending they were hoping for at the end of the first film. Rishu seems like he is on the run, and Rani appears to be going on just as she did in the first film. Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba trailer gives away a large chunk of the plot where you find out that Rani’s affair with Abhimanyu has put him in harm’s way as well, as Rishu appears to be on a murderous streak. The trailer also shows a shot of a crocodile who seems to be trailing Rani. Jimmy is playing a cop investigating Rani’s case. He is also the paternal uncle of Neel, who was killed by Rani in the first film.

Talking about the film, Taapsee said in a statement, “Reuniting with Rani feels like coming home, and I’m thrilled to dive back into her world again. The immense love and support I received for this film is overwhelming. Kanika has once again crafted a phenomenal arc for Rani, pushing the character to new depths. This time around, audiences will witness a Rani who is fiercer, more passionate, and even more complex.”

Vikrant Massey said, “Rishu is more than just a character to me; he’s a complex individual caught in a whirlwind of emotions. Reprising this role has been a fulfilling journey. If you thought you knew Rishu, prepare to be surprised. The sequel delves deeper into his psyche, exploring his vulnerabilities and strengths in ways we haven’t seen. The story takes unexpected turns, and I’m confident audiences will be captivated by the wild ride that awaits them.”

Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba is directed by Jayprad Desai and releases on Netflix on August 9.
