The 16-year-old actor Nitanshi Goel became a sensation following the release of Kiran Rao’s critically acclaimed film Laapataa Ladies, which was produced by her ex-husband Aamir Khan. This film marked Nitanshi’s debut, and in a recent interaction, she reflected on her experience meeting Aamir for the first time. She also divulged details about working with Kiran on the project.

In a conversation with Bombay Times, Nitanshi described Aamir as a ‘magician.’ She recounted how, after viewing her audition, Aamir showered her with praise and encouraged her to aim high. She recalled how he consistently praised her in front of her mother and Kiran, expressing his strong desire for her to play the role of Phool in the film. She recalled, “He went on to say, ‘She’s a diamond. She’s going to be a superstar. We want her in the film anyhow.’ And that was it for me.” Nitanshi revealed that she was moved to tears by Aamir’s heartfelt comments.

Although Laapataa Ladies was Nitanshi’s first film, she was fortunate to work with Kiran Rao, who made the process feel effortless. Nitanshi described her nervousness on the first day of shooting, when she had to perform a highly emotional breakdown scene. Despite her apprehension, Rao’s trust and confidence in her were evident. Nitanshi said, “We shot it in one take. She said cut, and I looked up with my welled-up eyes, and I saw Kiran ma’am had tears in her eyes. She started clapping, and the whole unit joined in. It was such a memorable experience.”

Laapataa Ladies tells the story of two newlywed brides who are mistakenly swapped during a train ride to their husbands’ homes. Released in theatres on March 1, the film initially had a slow start at the box office but eventually became a sleeper hit. It gained significant attention after its release on Netflix and developed a massive fan following.
