Avika Gor, the name synonymous with childhood innocence thanks to her iconic portrayal of Anandi in Balika Vadhu, has come a long way. Her journey from a naive child actor to an evolved actor is as captivating as her on-screen roles. The actress, who later found fame as Roli in Sasural Simar Ka, revealed some shocking insights into her early career.  During a recent appearance on Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa’s podcast, she candidly admitted to being clueless about acting when she began her television journey.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Avika opened up about her personal life, sharing details about her four-and-a-half-year relationship with Milind Chandwani. Their love story, which started in Hyderabad, is  marked by a six-month friend zone, eventually turned into a love story.

“He is a 9-5 corporate guy who also runs an NGO. We met each other through a mutual friends in Hyderabad. He friend-zoned me for six months. I started liking him since day one. I was very sure about him In the beginning, I also agreed to being friends. Mera bhi ego agaya ki hum toh hum dost hi rahenge (I also became egoistic and said let’s be just friends). But within a few weeks, I was very sure about him,” she added.  Avika  began dating Roadies alum and social activist Milind in November 2020. The couple publicly confirmed their relationship shortly after and have since delighted fans with their affectionate posts on social media.  The 27-year-old revealed that Milind is the first guy whom she introduced to her parents and it was during one of his initially visits to her house that Avika’s mother asked, “Shaadi kab horahi hai?”

“I introduced him as a friend par Maa toh maa hoti hai. She figured out. I was involved with him in conversations and raising funds for his NGO!” The 1920: Horrors of the Heart actor Milind said yes to her after six months of her proposing to her. “Maine toh pehle hi bola hua tha (I had proposed to him six months ago). Woh bahot  samjhdar hai (He is very intelligent) After six months, he told me, ‘Okay, I love you, too!’ So I asked him  ‘yeh chhe mahine kya drama kya tha?’ and like a nice boy he explained it to me that he didn’t want to rush things and see we actually liked each other as friends and only then we will take thing forward.”

Avika, who said was always in love with Milind, revealed if it were on her, she would have been married to him four years ago. “Mere haath mein hota toh main sadhe chaar saal pehle shaadi kar chuki hoti.  Kuch sochna nahin tha. Ab jo hai yahi hai. Mere dimaag mein ho chuki hai shaadi. But he was sensible enough. He told me, “You’re still 26 and I am 32. You take your time to work and see life,” she added.

At just 21, Avika established her own production company after rigorous training in screenplay writing. Her financial prudence is evident in her ability to secure her future, thanks to astute investments made by her father.  During the podcast, she revealed that even if she stopped acting, she would successfully be able to sustain herself as she ensured that she saved enough money. “My father is very smart. He started investing in properties and other places since I was very young. Agar main kaam karna chor bhi doon toh meri life waise set hai (Even if I quit working, I can easily survive),” she added.

The young Avika was merely a puppet, reciting lines without understanding the nuances of the craft. It was only towards the end of her monumental stint in Balika Vadhu, which extended far beyond its initial 80-episode contract to a staggering 515 episodes, that she grasped the concept of TRPs and the television industry’s relentless pursuit of drama.  When quizzed by Bharti about her favourite on-screen husband, Avika, who is gearing up for Disney Plus Hotstar’s  Bloody Ishq, revealed that Avinash Mukherjee, who played her husband in Balika Vadhu, continues to be her friend  and that the two were classmates. “Meri 20 shaadiya ho chuki hain 20 TV. I shared the best bond with Jagya. We went to the same school. I was a bully and I was very rude in school,” she recalled.

Recently, in an interview with The Male Feminist segment in Hautterfly, Avika revealed she was harassed by her bodyguard.  “In India, it happens, but this has happened a lot with me in Kazakhstan. There are bodyguards with you always, but there is always someone who wants to act smart,” Avika shared while recounting an incident where she was touched inappropriately while heading to the stage at an event. “When I turned around, there was no one else but my bodyguard.”
