Producer Ramesh Taurani’s latest project Ishq Vishk Rebound hit screens in June. While the Gen-Z version of his popular college romance film, Ishq Vishk, didn’t strike a chord with the audience, his contribution to Hindi cinema has been significant. Having given the Indian audience some iconic films under the TIPS banner, there are loads of memories and stories that Taurani has to share. During a recent interview, Taurani went down memory lane, recalling how Dil Se became Preity Zinta’s debut film.

When asked how Dil Se became Preity’s first big screen outing despite shooting for Kya Kehna, Ramesh Taurani told News18 Showsha, “We had signed Preity Zinta for Kya Kehna first, but the film was released a little late. While Kya Kehna was being made, we even cast Preity in Soldier. We had a contract with her, that our films would be released first, but then she received an offer for Dil Se from Mani Ratnam and Shah Rukh Khan was the hero. We allowed her to work on that film, but we were clear that their film would come after us.”

“Dil Se was made on time, Soldier was also ready to release, but we couldn’t do it in August because we had the music for another picture of Bobby called Qareeb, which was to be released in June. Later Shah Rukh and Mani Ratnam called me asking to release Dil Se before Soldier. I said okay, and that’s how Dil Se released earlier followed by Soldier and Kya Kehna,” he shared.

Ramesh Taurani also shared that while Shah Rukh Khan and Mani Ratnam spoke to him, they praised Preity Zinta and said that she had done a fabulous job in Dil Se, pointing out that a debut like that would only benefit her films that would release afterward.
