Indian 2’s box office collection on day four has pretty much sealed the film’s fate. The Kamal Haasan-starrer witnessed an all-out crash across all versions on its first Monday, as the collections plummeted to single digits on its make-or-break fourth day of release. According to industry tracker Sacnlik, Indian 2 collected Rs 3.15 cr all-India nett, which is lower than Kalki 2898 AD’s collection on its third Monday.

Indian 2 opened with Rs 25.6 cr on Friday, followed by Saturday and Sunday figures at Rs 18.2 cr and 15.35 cr respectively. But the Monday collections saw a drastic drop of 79 percent from what it earned on Sunday. This indicates poor word of mouth for the long-awaited sequel, in which Kamal Haasan reprises his role as the vigilante Senapathy.

This comes after the makers had reportedly decided to trim 20 minutes from the film’s runtime in response to the negative reviews from all quarters. Indian 2 has so far minted Rs 62.3 cr, out of which the Tamil collections contribute major chunk. Indian 2’s Hindi collections, for example, failed to go beyond Rs 1 cr mark throughout the weekend.

The film released alongside Sudha Kongara’s Sarfira, a remake of her National Award-winning Tamil film Soorarai Pottru. Starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, the Hindi film had little impact on Indian 2 as it also had an abysmal weekend and got washed out on Monday with Rs 1.40 cr nett collections.

The only film which continued to do better, despite it being its third Monday, was Prabhas-led sci-fi epic Kalk 2898 AD. Also starring Kamal Haasan, the Nag Ashwin directorial recorded collections of Rs 4.3 cr, which is almost what Indian 2 and Sarfira earned collectively. All three films will now witness a bigger fall this Friday as their showcasing will be affected due to the Vicky Kaushal and Triptii Dimri-starrer Bad Newz.

In Indian 2, Kamal Haasan reprises his role as Senapathy, an ageing freedom fighter turned vigilante who fights against corruption. The sequel to the 1996 film also starred Siddharth, SJ Suryah and Rakul Preet Singh among others. A third instalment of the film is expected to release next year.
