After delivering the lowest opening of his career in the last 15 years, Akshay Kumar’s latest film, Sarfira, saw a 70 per cent jump in its collection on its first Saturday. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film minted Rs 4.25 crore at the box office on Saturday, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 6.75 crore.

The movie had an overall 21.76 per cent Hindi occupancy on Saturday, with maximum occupancy of 26.31 per cent seen in evening shows. Akshay, who is already going through a lull period post-pandemic, barring OMG and Sooryavanshi, delivered the lowest opening of his career’s last 15 years with Sarfira. The film minted Rs 2.5 crore on the opening day and lagged behind Akshay’s previous films like Selfiee (Rs 2.5 crore), Ram Setu (Rs 15 crore), Raksha Bandhan (Rs 8.2 crore), Mission Raniganj (Rs 2.8 crore), Bachchhan Paandey (Rs 13 crore), and others.

According to India TV, Sarfira has been made on an overall budget of Rs 100 crore, all-inclusive of prints and advertising costs. The film must pick up pace in its first week to improve its overall collection. The Akshay Kumar-starrer released in theatres along with Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, which had a great opening at the box office. The Shankar directorial minted Rs 25.6 crore on the opening day and Rs 16.7 crore on day 2, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 42.3 crore, with the Hindi version of the film earning Rs 2.4 crore.

Directed by Sudha Kongara, Sarfira is the Hindi remake of the National Award-winning Tamil film Soorarai Pottru (2020), which starred Suriya in the lead role. The film won five awards at the 68th National Film Awards. The Indian Express’s Shubhra Gupta gave the film 2.5 stars and wrote, “This is what happens when the film is mainly interested in fronting its hero. It isn’t as if Akshay Kumar, who is in practically every frame of the film, is actively terrible, but there really isn’t a single thing he does here that he hasn’t done before.”
