Emraan Hashmi experienced a period of great difficulty when his son was diagnosed with cancer in 2014. The actor, in a recent interview, recalled when he had to juggle professional commitments while arranging for his son’s treatment. Emraan said that he flew his son to Canada for treatment, but they were soon separated because of his unfinished projects back home. He also recalled that his mother was diagnosed with cancer almost immediately after his son went into remission.

In a chat with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel, Emraan said that soon after his son Ayaan was diagnosed in 2014, his uncle Mahesh Bhatt warned that film producers might be supporting him now, but they could turn their backs on him later if he doesn’t complete his unfinished projects. “Bhatt saab called me after the operation. He said that the industry is such that people are supporting you, but the ugly truth is that there is a business here. Producers might be lenient now but… I didn’t want anyone to lose money. There were a few films that I had started and I was on my way to completing them. I was doing four films then,” he said.

He shared that he called all of his producers and told them that he would return to India in a month’s time, after Ayaan’s treatment began in Canada. “I called all of them and I told them that I am taking Ayaan to Canada for his treatment. I will stay there for a month with him so his treatment starts, and I will come back, which was very tough for me. I came back and shot for four months here and then I went back and met him,” he shared.

In the same chat, Emraan shared that when his son went into remission in 2016, his mother was diagnosed with cancer soon afterwards. He said, “It was very unfortunate, it didn’t last very long. She fought for around six months. She took chemotherapy. I was shooting for Raaz (Reboot). I had packed up and I was going to fly back. When I got in the car in the morning to go to the airport, I got a call from my father that they had shifted her to the ICU. I got a call that she had passed away just when I was going to board. It was very difficult because it was an 18-hour flight and I got to know just before boarding.”
