Fans have been raving about Amitabh Bachchan’s look as the immortal Ashwatthama in Kalki 2898 AD ever since the film hit theatres on June 27. Recently, the makeup artist behind Big B’s epic transformation shared some behind-the-scenes glimpses of the process.

In photos shared by makeup artist Preetisheel Singh, the actor is seen patiently getting his elaborate makeup done and donning robes with desert tones. Bachchan’s look was further enhanced by the use of prosthetics. He is seen with long white hair and a long beard, and a hint of a tilak on his forehead. The actor is wearing weary cotton fabric, giving him an aged and ethereal appearance. Singh captioned the post, “Behold the transformation of @amitabhbachchan Sir into #ashwatthama: a timeless legend brought to life by a legendary actor.”

During the pre-release event of Kalki 2898 AD, Amitabh Bachchan spoke about the arduous process of achieving Ashwatthama’s look. He said, “During the first trial, I had to wear makeup and prosthetics and I was saying, ‘Oh God, another prosthetic film.’ I had already done two before this. It’s very painful. But the three hours it used to take to put on the prosthetics and another hour-and-a-half to take it off, it was all worth it. For people who don’t know, during prosthetics, you have to sit in one position for three hours and cooperate with the makeup artist. It’s not a torture really, but some people think it is torturous. However, once you know what the final result is going to be…” Big B’s Kalki co-star Kamal Haasan, who was also present at the event, quickly added, “It is a torture if the movie is not good enough.”

Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD has raked in Rs 371 crore in India to date. The film has likely surpassed the Rs 600 crore mark globally with its Tuesday collections.
