Bollywood actor Sushmita Sen’s life took a dramatic turn early last year when she suffered a heart attack that nearly cost her life. However, like a phoenix, Sushmita made a remarkable recovery and has since never missed a chance to express her gratitude for being alive.

Recently, Sushmita surprised her fans by changing her date of birth on her Instagram bio to February 27, 2023. She referred to it as her “Second DOB,” a gesture her fans quickly recognised as a tribute to the day she survived the heart attack. The Bollywood star has now unveiled a video, produced in collaboration with a pharmaceutical company, explaining why she considers this date her “second birthdate”.

“My life is a story that I have played and lived. But sometimes, a twist might appear in the story. During a shoot, I suffered a massive heart attack. Those were the longest 45 minutes of my life. There was a moment when I thought my story was over,” Sushmita can be heard saying in the video, which also features old pictures of the actor with her loved ones, including her daughters.

“But thanks to my doctors. They are the reason my story continues. They didn’t give up on me, and nor did they let me give up. They wrote a new story for my life and gave me a new direction. February 27, 2023 — my second birthdate. I am dedicating this day and my story to all the doctors,” she added.

The #SecondBirthDate initiative has been launched for people to express their gratitude to the doctors who profoundly impacted their lives. Alongside Sushmita Sen, actor Manisha Koirala has also joined the initiative, which involves updating one’s date of birth on social media and sharing personal stories.

Sushmita Sen, 48, underwent an angioplasty and had a stent placed in her heart in February last year after she suffered a massive heart attack while shooting for Aarya 3. “I was always in love with life, and I still am, and always will be. I think that was one of the reasons it was hard to take me like that,” she said during a chat with The Indian Express last year.

“It did make me realise that I have seriously important unfinished businesses. And I have to be more aware of what I have left to do. You don’t come back from an episode like that, all hale and hearty. It’s been four months since the heart attack and I feel fine. Everything that has happened thereafter (pauses) there’s a reason why I am still here. So let’s make it count,” she added.
