Tabu and Ajay Devgn have had a long-term association on screen, first appearing together in the 1994 film Vijaypath. In a recent interaction, Tabu spoke about her on- and off-screen relationship with Ajay, describing how they are two completely different people who share similar tastes in certain things. She also talked about Ajay’s quiet demeanor and how he rarely showers her with praises upfront.
Speaking to Zoom about working with Ajay in multiple projects, she said, “We are very different as people, but we share a bond that goes beyond anything. I think it is the awareness of what we share for each other and what we feel for each other. No matter how close you are as friends, sharing a screen is very different from the equation you share off camera. We have similar tastes in certain things and are completely different in others. We might not agree on everything.”
Speaking about how Ajay Devgn never appreciates her to her face, Tabu said, “He isn’t very demonstrative. He won’t call you up and say, ‘Aree wah, kya picture bani hai (Wow! What a film you have made).’ He will show his appreciation in his own way.”
Talking about the rare occasion when Ajay did laud her, she shared, “I don’t remember if he has praised me ever to my face. If he has praised me behind my back, then I don’t know. But I remember at Bholaa’s trailer launch, we all were sitting and eating, and out of the blue, he said, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 toh iski (Tabu) ki vajah se chali hai (Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 worked because of Tabu).’ I was shocked that he actually said that.”
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was the highest opener and biggest blockbuster post pandemic. The film minted Rs 266.88 crore at the box office and became the fourth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2022.
Tabu and Ajay have starred in movies like Haqeeqat, Thakshak, Drishyam, Fitoor, Golmaal Again, De De Pyaar De, Drishyam 2, and Bholaa. Their upcoming film, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, is directed by Neeraj Pandey and also stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Shantanu Maheshwari, and Saiee Manjrekar in pivotal roles. It will release in theatres on July 5.
